AS WE CELEBRATE IN ASSURANCES OF DIVINE HOPE

It is that time of the year where we come together to celebrate the goodness of God in our lives as a school and as individuals. “A sensible thanksgiving for mercies received is a mighty prayer in the spirit of God. It prevails with Him unspeakably” (John Bunyan). We cannot but begin this address on a note of gratitude to the Almighty God for His preservation and blessings over every stakeholder in this great commission of ours. We have all gathered here today not as a matter of tradition but to thoughtfully and specially appreciate the good Lord who in His infinite mercies has chosen to give us reasons to smile even in these challenging times in the history of our nation and humanity at large. All glory and adoration are still not enough to appreciate God for His wonders in our lives as a school and as individuals here today.

It is also with a joyful heart that I welcome us all to today’s wonderful event. Distinguished parents and guardians, we acknowledge and appreciate your unalloyed support and great love for this partnership of ours. Over the years, you have continued to demonstrate the true meaning of loyalty to our calling. Evidently, your esteemed presence here today also shows your dedication and commitment to the holistic education of our wards and the advancement of the school. It is always our honour to have you with us.

Today’s event is not just significant by virtue of convention. It is a unique opportunity for us all to come together and meaningfully engaging ourselves with the learning processes and trends that are used in navigating the course of a better tomorrow for our children. It also presents us with a prospect as progressives to take stock of our ideologies, methodologies and organizational structures and present ourselves an objective score card.

No doubts, the socio-economic indices of the nation are not favourable at the moment. The recent removal of oil subsidy and devaluation of the naira have inflationary implications on the lives of the citizenry. Prices of goods and services have continued to soar astronomically and economic structures have remained in their status-quo. Highlighting the challenges above is not to add to or heighten the level of apprehension of an average Nigerian but to let us know that as a school, we identify with the socio-economic realities of the nation and that of our esteemed parents who are our major stakeholders.

Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort. (Paul Meyer), Mr. Chairman, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to assure us all today that as a citadel of learning, we remain resolute. The seemingly huge societal and individual challenges are not insurmountable. More than ever before, we are focused and determined to achieve even greater success and attain new heights. We have resolved to stand firm and remain unshaken so that we can effectively and adequately discharge our duties and provide the essential services of giving functional and quality education to our wards. We seek the continuous support and loyalty of our dear parents in maintaining the already high standard and in the execution of more innovative structures which are in the pipeline and that will better enhance the all-round education of our wards.

To the graduating classes of today, please bear in mind that every new beginning starts with an end. Indeed, you have come to the end of a phase in your academic journey in your various levels today but a new beginning just got activated. You must never rest on your oars in the illusion that you have arrived. Please take the following maxims to heart and let them guide you.

  • Make God the cornerstone of all you do in life. Strive hard to commune daily with Him; be guided by his wisdom; for out of God’s mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
  • Successful people are not those who do not make mistakes but those who analyze their mistakes and eliminate them.
  • Public opinion is a fickle; do not allow yourself to be driven by what the people say about you or events around you, but be driven by your passions, ideals and objectives.
  • Never ever downgrade your ideals in a moment of weakness.
  • Acquiring material wellbeing is good but never let it be an end in itself, for it is a receipt for unhappiness, but if you seek to make money, do it always for a higher objective, a good and noble cause.
  • Explore further, the use of ICT in your future endeavors, for therein lies the golden egg of the future.

We wish the 2023 Class a great future ahead. We hope to hear of your exploits in your various higher institutions of learning and chosen career fields in the nearest future. Do not hesitate to reach out to us for guidance when the need arises. We shall continue to pray for you.

I enjoin other students to use the success of the graduating students as an impetus to make them strive harder to attain excellence and success. You must always remember that “Ambition is the path to success and persistence is the vehicle you arrive in” (Bill Brandy). Dear students, please stay focused and continue to strive hard to be better versions of yourselves at all times. Stay away from vices and evil societal norms. I admonish you to live an honest, transparent and sincere life. Say no to questionable conducts that would tarnish the image of the school and those of your parents; listen to your teachers in the school and obey your parents at home. We are also banking on the support of our parents to complement the efforts of the school in the total upbringing of our dear wards. We pray that you will all reap the fruits of your labour on them in Jesus’ name. Amen.
