GOF BABIES’ HOUSE: A CRECHE BEYOND CRECHE

Print

Monday 4th April, 2016 was not an ordinary day in GOF International School. In fact it was a day to be always remembered; the day when the much awaited GOF Baby House popularly called crèche was officially opened and dedicated to the glory of God and the service of mankind; especially, the next generation. Here is the short address presented by the proprietress of GOF International Schools, home and abroad, lover of children, Mrs. Oyefunke Mary Olowe. It is with great pleasure that I stand before you this day on this august and epoch-making event of declaring open and commissioning the latest addition in our chain of educational ventures (GOF International School Crèche). It may interest you to hear that approval for this crèche had been since 2013, but our belief in doing things properly and right had caused the take off to be put forward till now.

An incomplete understanding of what crèche is makes many people see it as a place where babies are simply kept, fed and have their diapers changed while their mothers are at work. While this notion is not wrong, it is however limited. A better understanding goes beyond this. A well-informed crèche, in addition to the aforementioned duties, monitors and stimulates the babies’ landmarks in the areas of key experiences such as movement, Communication and Language Early Quantity and number. Exploring Objects, Sense of Self , Social Relations, Space Exploration, Time, Music, and Pre-school Writing.

This is however done, not by subjecting the children to any kind of serious formal teaching-learning but by providing a rich and motivating environment that could facilitate the development and sharpening of these skills with little interference. Since this is a stage when babies and toddlers try to make sense out of the general world and the numerous and diverse encounters they are bombarded with, the multisensory activities and the programmes made available to them enhance faster internalization and proper organization of these facts and prepare the ground for inquisitiveness and love of life-long learning.

Ladies and Gentlemen, without trying to bore you with too much detail, it is my pleasure to welcome you to this official commissioning and dedication of GOF International School Crèche, Osogbo to the glory of God and the blessing of humanity, in the name of the father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
